Browser Shots Cross Browser Compatibility Check
July 26, 2008 · Filed Under Cross Browser, Designer Tools, General Freelancing, Helpful Tips, Tips for Tuesday, Week Starter Tools · Comment
Sorry for the late post, things have been really hectic being such a high demand freelancer.Which is what I’m sure most of you here reading my site are trying to become. Yes this was posted in Tips for Tuesdays, and I know its not Tuesday… Got my days a bit mixed up here.As a website development based freelancer I come across some great tools to help with my every day work. One of these tools as of late has been the use of validating cross-browser compatibility using the FREE Browser Shots website.
Browser Shots provides a very nice system to be able to see a screen shot of what your web site looks at the span of about 44 different browsers across multiple operating systems. From using the web site I have found that the web’s new style of coding is particularly not liked in IE5.5 and IE6.0 — Neither of which I use, which is why I use Browser Shots.
If you are in the design and development field, this is a great service to us developers. It is pretty important to have a cross-browser compatible website and to develop them cross-browser as I’m sure most of you know. W3C Compliance is always a plus, but you can be W3C Compliant and still not look right across many browsers.
If you’re not in the development industry but have a website that you had developed, it’s a good tool to make sure the developer did a good job. Anyways, take a visit, scan some sites with it, and let me know what you think in the comments please.

Week Starter Tools on Mondays: BustAName
I have decided that every Monday I will review a tool or a website that can be used to help freelancers and internet entrepreneurs in their online endeavors. This Weeks Starter Tool is BustAName. Say what?! Bust-A-Name. That’s right.
This genius made this awesome AJAX and Ruby on Rails based domain name search and who-is functionality. The tag line you ask? ‘You can still find good domains’ — In fact, I have already found a few from there: makemoneyfreelancing.com, scriptsnap.com, wpabuse.com, and a few others. This is just an awesome tool for any domainer or anyone trying to find a good domain out there. I had been using Domain Name Analyzer for a long time, but now I have my heart set on BustAName.Website: http://www.bustaname.com (Find Good Domains)
I have noticed a few bugs in the site. Sometimes it will tell you a domain name is available, when really it is not. This got a little frustrating for me when I was like HOT DAMN THATS AVAILABLE!@#~ …BUY… And then GoDaddy says Sorry that domain name is already taken and it upsets me. But that’s okay, it still has to be one of the most advanced domain name searching website available on the net today. I really hope the owner doesn’t get hired for some big corporation and never do any updates to it, because this website has great potential.
Don’t forget when you find a good domain name, take it on over to Pagematic for Quality Web Hosting. Tell them Casey sent you and you’ll be sure to get taken care of like no other.
That’s what I got for you this week, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of BustAName. I would definitely love to hear what everyone has to say.
